Air Saphrona's FarewellA
-
-
Come all ye young people of every degreeB
Come give your attention one moment to meB
It's of a young couple I now will relateC
And of their misfortunes and of their sad fateC
-
One was a young damsel both blooming and fairD
The other a young man his beauty was rareD
He loved this lady as he loved his own lifeE
If God had not called her he would made her his wifeE
-
He courted her a long time in triumph and gleeB
But little did he think that she would soon leaveF
Leave him in sorrow forsaken aloneG
To mourn her departure for she was going homeH
-
Going home to her Father that dwelleth on highI
Who gave her her life and who caused her to dieI
And leave her true lover one whom she could trustJ
To moulder her fair form a while in the dustJ
-
Lois House and Joy Morris were their names I believeF
They loved each other dearly and never deceivedK
But God he did part them one which he laid lowL
The other He left with his heart full of woeL
-
Joy laid her dying head on his bosom once moreM
Pressed her to his heart as he had oft done beforeM
Saying Dear Lois are you going to leave meB
Yes Joy I can no longer stay here with theeB
-
Oh Joy can't you give me up dearest said sheB
If you will say yes love I can leave in peaceN
In heaven love I will be waiting for theeB
Be true to our Savior you'll soon follow meB
-
If I must say yes love for you to leave meB
God will do better by you Lois than meB
Oh it's hard for me dearest hard to say yesO
It leaves me alone love in sad woefulnessO
-
I want your picture Joy placed in my cold handP
And let it be buried with me in the groundQ
It's all I can carry with me to the graveR
Grant it to me love it's all that I craveR
-
They called for her father and mother most dearS
She kissed them and bade them farewell thro' their tearsO
They called for her brother and sisters againT
To kiss their sister while life still remainU
-
One kiss from you Joy she whispered so lowL
That no one in the room heard her you knowL
She gasped for her breath once or twice moreM
When lo her spirit left her and Lois is no moreM
-
They placed her fair form in the coffin so coldV
And placed there Joy's picture as they had been toldV
They bore her to her grave all were in sad gloomW
And gently laid her down to rest in her tombW
