i Air Saphrona's Farewell iA
-
-
Come all ye young people of every degreeB
Come give your attention one moment to meB
It's of a young couple I now will relateC
And of their misfortunes and of their sad fateC
-
One was a young damsel both blooming and fairD
The other a young man his beauty was rareD
He loved this lady as he loved his own lifeE
If God had not called her he would made her his wifeE
-
He courted her a long time in triumph and gleeB
But little did he think that she would soon leaveF
Leave him in sorrow forsaken aloneG
To mourn her departure for she was going homeH
-
Going home to her Father that dwelleth on highA
Who gave her her life and who caused her to dieA
And leave her true lover one whom she could trustI
To moulder her fair form a while in the dustI
-
Lois House and Joy Morris were their names I believeF
They loved each other dearly and never deceivedJ
But God he did part them one which he laid lowK
The other He left with his heart full of woeK
-
Joy laid her dying head on his bosom once moreL
Pressed her to his heart as he had oft done beforeL
Saying Dear Lois are you going to leave meB
Yes Joy I can no longer stay here with theeB
-
Oh Joy can't you give me up dearest said sheB
If you will say yes love I can leave in peaceM
In heaven love I will be waiting for theeB
Be true to our Savior you'll soon follow meB
-
If I must say yes love for you to leave meB
God will do better by you Lois than meB
Oh it's hard for me dearest hard to say yesN
It leaves me alone love in sad woefulnessN
-
I want your picture Joy placed in my cold handO
And let it be buried with me in the groundP
It's all I can carry with me to the graveQ
Grant it to me love it's all that I craveQ
-
They called for her father and mother most dearR
She kissed them and bade them farewell thro' their tearsN
They called for her brother and sisters againS
To kiss their sister while life still remainT
-
One kiss from you Joy she whispered so lowK
That no one in the room heard her you knowK
She gasped for her breath once or twice moreL
When lo her spirit left her and Lois is no moreL
-
They placed her fair form in the coffin so coldU
And placed there Joy's picture as they had been toldU
They bore her to her grave all were in sad gloomV
And gently laid her down to rest in her tombV
