Oh come listen to my storyB
Of a little infant childC
His spirit is in gloryB
It has left us for a whileD
Death has robbed us of our HenryB
He is with our Savior nowE
Where there is no pain or sorrowF
Comes to cloud his little browE
-
CHORUSG
-
God has took their little treasureH
And his name I'll tell you nowE
He has gone from earth foreverH
Their little Charles Henry HouseI
-
His cheeks were red as rosesJ
And his eyes were black as coalsK
His little lips were red as rubiesL
And his little hair it curledM
Oh they called him little CharleyB
He was full of joyful mirthN
Now his little form is lyingO
'Neath the cold and silent earthN
-
It was the eleventh of DecemberH
On a cold and windy dayP
Just at the close of eveningO
When the sunlight fades awayP
Little Henry he was dyingO
In his little crib he layP
With soft winds round him sighingO
From the morn till close of dayP
-
Parents brothers sisters weepingO
For their cup of sorrow's fullQ
And his little playthings keepingO
That he thought so beautifulR
Tears from parents' eyes were startingO
For their little loving oneS
Oh how painful was the partingO
From their little infant sonS
-
Oh how often have they kissed himT
And caressed his little browE
To his little voice have listenedU
But his place is vacant nowE
They called him little CharleyB
And his loving name they calledV
But they could not keep their darlingO
From the loving Savior's callW
-
But they must now cease their mourningO
His little soul is at restX
Where there can no storms of troubleR
Roll across his peaceful breastX
Now his little form is sleepingO
In the cold and silent tombY
And his friends are left a weepingO
In his dear and loving homeZ
-
It was the eleventh of DecemberH
Eighteen seventy was the yearA2
Kind friends will all rememberH
Silently let fall a tearB2
But we must not trouble borrowF
For the God of heaven is justC2
No one knows a parent's sorrowF
Till a child some friend have lostD2
