I wonder where my papa is	A
Oh where could he have gone	B
I wonder why he does not come	C
And see his Lilly Long	D
He would come and sit by me	E
When the fever burnt my brow	F
I wonder where my papa is	A
For he comes not near me now	F

I hear no more the foot pace	G
In the hall by my door	H
Where he would gently gently tread	I
Upon the oaken floor	H
His place is vacant by the hearth	J
There stands his easy chair	K
I hear no more his loving voice	L
Raising the evening prayer	K

The last time I saw my papa dear	M
Was just five days ago	N
He took me in his arms and said	I
You are getting better slow	N
Thank God my little Lilly pet	O
Will soon be well again	P
And run about the house and play	Q
With little Nettie Lane	R

I wonder where my papa is	A
Oh where could he have gone	B
It cannot be he has forgotten	S
His little Lilly Long	D
No he never would have left me	E
And mamma without aid	T
I fear my papa has fallen	S
A victim of the plague	U

The mother listened to her child	V
Her heart filled with pain	R
To hear her loved one mourn for him	W
Who would never come again	P
Tears were falling from her eyes	X
From her bossom heaved a sigh	Y
Little Lilly asked in wonder	Z
Mamma dear what makes you cry	Y

Dearest Lilly must I tell you	A2
That your papa is no more	H
That he cannot come and see you	A2
And caress you as of yore	H
He has gone to live with Jesus	B2
In the heavenly home above	C2
Where are dwelling the blessed	D2
In God's everlasting love	C2

Lilly listened to her mother	Z
She uttered not a sound	E2
O'er her little pale cheeks softly	E
Tears began to trinkle down	F2
At last she sweetly murmured	G2
Mamma dear you and I	Y
Must live so we can meet papa	H2
In Heaven by and by	Y

While we live on earth we should keep	I2
The heavenly land in view	A2
