Air Bright AlfarettaA
-
-
Wild roved the Indians onceB
On the banks of Grand RiverC
And they built their little hutsD
Down by that flowing riverC
In a pleasant valley fairE
Where flows the river rapidA
An Indian village once was thereE
Where now stands Grand RapidsF
-
Indian girls and boys were seenG
With their bow and quiverC
Riding in their light canoesH
Up and down the riverC
Their hearts were full of joyI
Happy voices singingJ
Made music with forest birdsK
They kept the valley ringingJ
-
Indians have left and goneL
Beyond the MississippiM
They called the river OwashtenongJ
Where stands this pleasant cityM
Louis Campau the first white manN
Bought land in Grand RapidsF
He lived and died an honored manN
By people of Grand RapidsF
-
When Campau came to the valleyM
No bridge was across the riverC
Indians in their light canoesH
Rowed them o'er the waterC
Railroads now from every wayO
Run through the city Grand RapidsF
The largest town in west MichiganP
Is the city of Grand RapidsF
