Rhyme Scheme: A BACADEFG HIJKLMNM OPQPQMLM CRSTUUCU

Air Lucy LongA
-
-
My friends I pray you listenB
I'll sing a little songA
About the village of RockfordC
It will not take me longA
And how it was first settledD
By enterprising menE
And all the news about itF
I'll tell you if I canG
-
Situated in a wildernessH
With forests all aroundI
Thirteen miles from Grand RapidsJ
Is this florishing townK
On the banks of Rogue riverL
Where runs the water stillM
And in the early settled daysN
Was called LaphamvilleM
-
First settled by Smith LaphamO
In eighteen and forty threeP
Then came the Hunter brothersQ
To keep him companyP
Lapham and Hunter BrothersQ
Built each a shingle millM
On the banks of Rogue riverL
Are the same old buildings stillM
-
In the early days of RockfordC
They had to run a stageR
They had no other conveyanceS
To get from place to placeT
Now they go by railwayU
The cars run night and dayU
The early days of RockfordC
Have nearly passed awayU
