My friends I pray you listenB
I'll sing a little songC
About the village of RockfordD
It will not take me longC
And how it was first settledE
By enterprising menF
And all the news about itG
I'll tell you if I canH
-
Situated in a wildernessI
With forests all aroundJ
Thirteen miles from Grand RapidsK
Is this florishing townL
On the banks of Rogue riverM
Where runs the water stillN
And in the early settled daysO
Was called LaphamvilleN
-
First settled by Smith LaphamP
In eighteen and forty threeQ
Then came the Hunter brothersR
To keep him companyQ
Lapham and Hunter BrothersR
Built each a shingle millN
On the banks of Rogue riverM
Are the same old buildings stillN
-
In the early days of RockfordD
They had to run a stageS
They had no other conveyanceT
To get from place to placeU
Now they go by railwayV
The cars run night and dayV
The early days of RockfordD
Have nearly passed awayV
