-
When Freedom from her mountain heightB
Unfurled her standard to the airC
She tore the azure robe of nightB
And set the stars of glory thereC
She mingled with its gorgeous dyesD
The milky baldric of the skiesD
And striped its pure celestial whiteB
With streakings of the morning lightB
Then from his mansion in the sunE
She called her eagle bearer downF
And gave into his mighty handG
The symbol of her chosen landG

-
Majestic monarch of the cloudH
Who rear'st aloft thy regal formI
To hear the tempest trumpings loudH
And see the lightning lances drivenE
When strive the warriors of the stormI
And rolls the thunder drum of heavenE
Child of the sun to thee 'tis givenE
To guard the banner of the freeJ
To hover in the sulphur smokeK
To ward away the battle strokeK
And bid its blendings shine afarL
Like rainbows on the cloud of warM
The harbingers of victoryJ

IIIA
-
Flag of the brave thy folds shall flyA
The sign of hope and triumph highA
When speaks the signal trumpet toneN
And the long line comes gleaming onO
Ere yet the life blood warm and wetP
Has dimm'd the glistening bayonetP
Each soldier eye shall brightly turnQ
To where thy sky born glories burnQ
And as his springing steps advanceR
Catch war and vengeance from the glanceR
And when the cannon mouthings loudH
Heave in wild wreaths the battle shroudH
And gory sabres rise and fallS
Like shoots of flame on midnight's pallT
Then shall thy meteor glances glowU
And cowering foes shall shrink beneathV
Each gallant arm that strikes belowU
That lovely messenger of deathW
-
IVA
-
Flag of the seas on ocean waveA
Thy stars shall glitter o'er the braveA
When death careering on the galeX
Sweeps darkly round the bellied sailX
And frighted waves rush wildly backY
Before the broadside's reeling rackY
Each dying wanderer of the seaJ
Shall look at once to heaven and theeJ
And smile to see thy splendours flyA
In triumph o'er his closing eyeA
-
VJ
-
Flag of the free heart's hope and homeZ
By angel hands to valour givenE
The stars have lit the welkin domeZ
And all thy hues were born in heavenE
For ever float that standard sheetA2
Where breathes the foe but falls before usB2
With Freedom's soil beneath our feetA2
And Freedom's banner streaming o'er usB2
