Lines Written On Leaving New Rochelle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE BFBF CGCB HDHE

Whene'er thy wandering footstep bendsA
Its pathway to the Hermit treeB
Among its cordial band of friendsA
Sweet Mary wilt thou number meB
-
Though all too few the hours have roll'dC
That saw the stranger linger hereD
In memory's volume let them holdC
One little spot to friendship dearE
-
I oft have thought how sweet 'twould beB
To steal the bird of Eden's artF
And leave behind a trace of meB
On every kind and friendly heartF
-
And like the breeze in fragrance rolledC
To gather as I wander byG
From every soul of kindred mouldC
Some touch of cordial sympathyB
-
'Tis the best charm in life's dull dreamH
To feel that yet there linger hereD
Bright eyes that look with fond esteemH
And feeling hearts that hold me dearE
