Spacious Firmament On High, The Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHH IIJJKKLL

The spacious firmament on highA
With all the blue ethereal skyA
And spangled heavens a shining frameB
Their great Original proclaimB
Th unwearied sun from day to dayC
Does his Creator s powers displayC
And publishes to every landD
The work of an Almighty HandD
-
Soon as the evening shades prevailE
The moon takes up the wondrous taleE
And nightly to the listening earthF
Repeats the story of her birthF
While all the stars that round her burnG
And all the planets in their turnG
Confirm the tidings as they rollH
And spread the truth from pole to poleH
-
What though in solemn silence allI
Move round the dark terrestrial ballI
What though no real voice nor soundJ
Amid the radiant orbs be foundJ
In reason s ear they all rejoiceK
And utter forth a glorious voiceK
Forever singing as they shineL
The hand that made us is divineL
