How are thy servants blest O LordA
How sure is their defenceB
Eternal wisdom is their guideC
Their help OmnipotenceD
-
In foreign realms and lands remoteE
Supported by Thy careF
Through burning climes I pass'd unhurtG
And breath'd in tainted airF
-
Thy mercy sweeten'd every soilH
Made every region pleaseI
The hoary Alpine hills it warm'dJ
And smooth'd the Tyrrhene seasI
-
Thin O my soul devoutly thinkK
How with affrighted eyesL
Thou saw'st the wide extended deepM
In all its horrors riseL
-
Confusion dwelt in every faceN
And fear in every heartO
When waves on waves and gulfs in gulfsP
O'ercame the pilot's artO
-
Yet then from all my griefs O LordA
Thy mercy set me freeQ
Whilst in the confidence of prayerF
My soul took hold on TheeQ
-
For though in dreadful whirls we hungR
High on the broken waveS
I knew Thou wert not slow to hearT
Nor impotent to saveS
-
The storm was laid the winds retir'dU
Obedient to Thy willV
The sea that roar'd at Thy commandW
At Thy command was stillV
-
In midst of dangers fears and deathX
Thy goodness I'll adoreY
And praise Thee for Thy mercies pastZ
And humbly hope for moreY
-
My life if Thou preserv'st my lifeA2
Thy sacrifice shall beQ
And death if death must be my doomB2
Shall join my soul to TheeQ
