Softly, O! Dropp Mine Eyes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEFGAA

Softly O dropp mine eyes lest you be dryA
And make my heart with grief to melt and dieA
Now pour out tears apaceB
Now stay O heavy caseB
O sour sweet woeC
Alas O grief O joy Why strive you soC
Can griefs and joys at once in one poor heart consentD
Then sigh and sing rejoice lamentD
Ah me O passions strange and violentE
Was never poor wretch so tormentedF
Nor joy nor grief can make my heart contentedG
For while with joy I look on highA
Down down I fall with grief and dieA
