Hymn Xxv: Stupendous Love Of God Most High! Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDEFGH BBIJJK LLBBBB MNADDA IOLPQL

Stupendous love of God most highA
He comes to meet us from the skyA
In mildest majestyB
Full of unutterable graceC
He calls the weary burdened raceC
Come all for help to meB
-
Tired with the greatness of my wayD
From him I would no longer strayD
But rest in Jesus haveE
Weary of sin from sin would ceaseF
Weary of mine own righteousnessG
And stoop myself to saveH
-
Weary of passions unsubduedB
Weary of vows in vain renewedB
Of forms without the powerI
Of prayers and hopes complaints and groansJ
My fainting soul in silence ownsJ
I can hold out no moreK
-
Beneath this mountain load of griefL
Of guilt and desperate unbeliefL
Jesus thy creature seeB
With all my nature's weight oppressedB
I sink I die for want of restB
Yet cannot come to theeB
-
Mine utter helplessness I feelM
But thou who gav'st the feeble willN
The effectual grace supplyA
Be thou my strength my light my wayD
And bid my soul the call obeyD
And to thy bosom flyA
-
Fulfil thine own intense desireI
And now into my heart inspireO
The power of faith and loveL
Then Saviour then to thee I comeP
And find on earth the life the homeQ
The rest of saints aboveL
