YOU AND YELLOW AIR by John Shaw NeilsonA
I dream of an old kissing timeB
And the flowered follies thereC
In the dim place of cherry treesD
Of you and yellow airC
-
It was an age of babblingE
When the players would playF
Mad with the wine and miraclesG
Of a charmed holidayF
-
Bewildered was the warm earthH
With whistling and sighsI
And a young foal spoke all his heartJ
With diamonds for eyesI
-
You were of Love's own colourC
In eyes and heart and hairC
In the dim place of cherry treesD
Ridden by yellow airC
-
It was the time when red loversK
With the red fevers burnL
A time of bells and silver seedsM
And cherries on the turnL
-
Children looked into tall treesD
And old eyes looked behindN
God in His glad OctoberC
No sullen man could findN
-
Out of your eyes a magicO
Fell lazily as dewP
And every lad with lad's eyesI
Made summer love to youP
-
It was a reign of rosesQ
Of blue flowers for the eyeR
And the rustling of green girlsS
Under a white skyR
-
I dream of an old kissing timeB
And the flowered follies thereC
In the dim place of cherry treesD
Of you and yellow airC
