To The Lord Generall Cromwell May 1652. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBBCCCCDD

Cromwell our cheif of men who through a cloudA
Not of warr onely but detractions rudeB
Guided by faith matchless FortitudeB
To peace truth thy glorious way hast plough'dA
And on the neck of crowned Fortune proudA
Hast reard Gods Trophies his work pursu'dB
While Darwen stream with blood of Scotts imbru'dB
And Dunbarr field resounds thy praises loudB
And Worsters laureat wreath yet much remainesC
To conquer still peace hath her victoriesC
No less renownd then warr new foes ariesC
Threatning to bind our soules with secular chainesC
Helpe us to save free Conscience from the pawD
Of hireling wolves whose Gospell is their mawD
