Sonnet 23 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCBBCDBEFEFEF

XXIIIA
-
Methought I saw my late espous egrave d saintB
Brought to me like Alcestis from the graveC
Whom Jove's great son to her glad husband gaveC
Rescued from death by force though pale and faintB
Mine as whom washed from spot of child bed taintB
Purification in the Old Law did saveC
And such as yet once more I trust to haveD
Full sight of her in Heav'n without restraintB
Came vested all in white pure as her mindE
Her face was veiled yet to my fancied sightF
Love sweetness goodness in her person shinedE
So clear as in no face with more delightF
But O as to embrace me she inclinedE
I waked she fled and day brought back my nightF
