Thou Shepherd that dost Israel keepA
Give ear in time of needB
Who leadest like a flock of sheepA
Thy loved Josephs seedB
That sitt'st between the Cherubs brightC
Between their wings out spreadD
Shine forth and from thy cloud give lightC
And on our foes thy dreadD
In Ephraims view and BenjaminsE
And in Manasse's sightC
Awake thy strength come and be seen GnoreraF
To save us by thy mightC
Turn us again thy grace divineG
To us O God vouchsafeH
Cause thou thy face on us to shineG
And then we shall be safeH
Lord God of Hosts how long wilt thouI
How long wilt thou declareF
Thy smoaking wrath and angry brow GnashantaC
Against thy peoples praireF
Thou feed'st them with the bread of tearsE
Their bread with tears they eatC
And mak'st them largely drink the tears ShalishJ
Wherewith their cheeks are wetC
A strife thou mak'st us and a preyF
To every neighbour foeH
Among themselves they laugh they play JilgnaguK
And flouts at us they throwH
Return us and thy grace divineG
O God of Hosts vouchsafeH
Cause thou thy face on us to shineG
And then we shall be safeH
A Vine from Aegypt thou hast broughtC
Thy free love made it thineG
And drov'st out Nations proud and hautC
To plant this lovely VineG
Thou did'st prepare for it a placeE
And root it deep and fastC
That it began to grow apaceE
And fill'd the land at lastC
With her green shade that cover'd allL
The Hills were over spreadC
Her Bows as high as Cedars tallL
Advanc'd their lofty headC
Her branches on the western sideC
Down to the Sea she sentC
And upward to that river wideC
Her other branches wentC
Why hast thou laid her Hedges lowH
And brok'n down her FenceE
That all may pluck her as they goH
With rudest violenceE
The tusked Boar out of the woodC
Up turns it by the rootsE
Wild Beasts there brouze and make their foodC
Her Grapes and tender ShootsE
Return now God of Hosts look downM
From Heav'n thy Seat divineG
Behold us but without a frownM
And visit this thy VineG
Visit this Vine which thy right handC
Hath set and planted longK
And the young branch that for thy selfH
Thou hast made firm and strongK
But now it is consum'd with fireF
And cut with Axes downM
They perish at thy dreadfull ireF
At thy rebuke and frownM
Upon the man of thy right handC
Let thy good hand be laidC
Upon the Son of Man whom thouI
Strong for thyself hast madeC
So shall we not go back from theeN
To wayes of sin and shameO
Quick'n us thou then gladly weeN
Shall call upon thy NameO
Return us and thy grace divineG
Lord God of Hosts voutsafeH
Cause thou thy face on us to shineG
And then we shall be safeH
