On The Lord Gen. Fairfax At The Seige Of Colchester Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBBCDDCDC

Fairfax whose name in armes through Europe ringsA
Filling each mouth with envy or with praiseB
And all her jealous monarchs with amazeB
And rumors loud that daunt remotest kingsA
Thy firm unshak'n vertue ever bringsA
Victory home though new rebellions raiseB
Their Hydra heads amp the fals North displaiesB
Her brok'n league to impe their serpent wingsB
O yet a nobler task awaites thy handC
Yet what can Warr but endless warr still breedD
Till Truth amp Right from Violence be freedD
And Public Faith cleard from the shamefull brandC
Of Public Fraud In vain doth Valour bleedD
While Avarice amp Rapine share the landC
