On His Deceased Wife Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABCADEDEEE

METHOUGHT I saw my late espoused SaintA
nbsp nbsp nbsp Brought to me like Alcestis from the graveB
nbsp nbsp nbsp Whom Joves great Son to her glad Husband gaveB
nbsp nbsp nbsp Rescu'd from death by force though pale and faintA
Mine as whom washt from spot of child bed taintA
nbsp nbsp nbsp Purification in the old Law did saveB
nbsp nbsp nbsp And such as yet once more I trust to haveC
nbsp nbsp nbsp Full sight of her in Heaven without restraintA
Came vested all in white pure as her mindD
nbsp nbsp nbsp Her face was vail'd yet to my fancied sightE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Love sweetness goodness in her person shin'dD
So clear as in no face with more delightE
nbsp nbsp nbsp But O as to embrace me she enclin'dE
nbsp nbsp nbsp I wak'd she fled and day brought back my nightE
