There's a little lake that liesA
In a valley where the skiesA
Kiss the mountains as they riseA
On the crownB
And the heaven born liteC
Are accustomed to retreatD
From the pestilential heatD
Lower downB
-
Where the Mighty for a spaceE
Mix with Beauty Rank and GraceE
I myself was in the placeE
At my bestF
And the atmosphere's divineG
While the deodar and pineG
Are particularly fineG
For the chestF
-
And a little month agoH
When the sun was lying lowH
And the water lay aglowH
Like a pearlI
I remarkably arrayedJ
Dipped an unobtrusive bladeJ
In the lake and in the shadeJ
With a girlI
-
O 'twas pleasant thus to glideK
On the 'softly flowing tide'K
Which it's not and undescriedK
Take a handK
In the sweet idyllic sportsL
That are known in such resortsL
To the sympathetic snortsL
Of the BandK
-
Till when o'er the 'still lagoon'G
Passed the golden afternoonG
The preposterous bassoonG
Growling deepM
Saved the King and knelled the dayK
As the crimson changed to greyK
And the little valley layK
Half asleepM
-
It is finished She was kindK
'Out of sight is out of mind '-
But the taste remains behindK
And the billsN
And I'd give the world to knowG
If there's some one else in towG
With my love a month agoG
In the HillsN
-
O ye valleys tell me prayK
Was she on the lake to dayK
Does she foot it in the gayK
Social whirlI
O ye Mountains of GilboaO
Send a bird or kindly blow aP
Breeze to tell me all you know about that girlI
