The Happy Ending Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBBBCDCD EAEEFBFB DEDECGCG EDEDEHEH

STANZAS WRITTEN IN DEJECTIONA
-
-
I am tired of the day with its profitless laboursB
And tired of the night with its lack of reposeB
I am sick of myself my surroundings and neighboursB
Especially Aryan Brothers and crowsB
O land of illusory hope for the needyC
O centre of soldiering thirst and shikarD
When a broken down exile begins to get seedyC
What a beast of a country you areD
-
There are many I know that have honestly drawn aE
Most moving description of pleasures to winA
By the exquisite carnage of such of your faunaE
As Nature provides with a 'head' or a 'skin'E
I know that a pig is magnificent stickingF
But good as you are in the matter of sportsB
When a person's alive so to put it and kickingF
You're a brute when a man's out of sortsB
-
For the moment he feels the effects of the weatherD
A mild go of fever a touch of the sunE
He arrives with a jerk at the end of his tetherD
And finds your attractions a bit overdoneE
Impatiently conscious of boredom and worryC
He sits in his misery scowling at griefG
With a face like a pallid rechauff e of curryC
And a head like a lump of boiled beefG
-
I am sick of the day as I happened to mentionE
And sick of the night as I stated beforeD
And it's oh for the wings of a dove or a pensionE
To carry me home to a happier shoreD
And oh to be off homeward bound on the brinyE
Away from the tropics away from the heatH
And to take off a shocking old hat to the ShinyE
As I shake off her dust from my feetH
