The Finest View Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL MNONAPAP QRQSTUTU

Away away The plains of IndA
Have set their victim freeB
I give my sorrows to the windA
My sun hat to the seaB
And standing with a chosen fewC
I watch a dying glowD
The passing of the Finest ViewC
That all the world can showD
-
It would not fire an artist's eyeE
This View whereof I singF
Poets no doubt would pass it byE
As quite a common thingF
The Tourist with belittling sniffG
Would find no beauties thereH
He couldn't if he would and ifG
He could he wouldn't careH
-
Only for him that turns the backI
On dark and evil daysJ
It throws a glory down his trackI
That sets his heart ablazeJ
A charm to make the wounded wholeK
Which wearied eyes may drawL
Luxuriously through the soulK
Like cocktails through a strawL
-
I have seen strong men moved to tearsM
When gazing o'er the deepN
Hard men whom I have known for yearsO
Nor dreamt that they could weepN
Even myself though stern and coldA
Beyond the common lineP
Cannot for very joy withholdA
The tribute of my brineP
-
Farewell farewell thou best of ViewsQ
I leave thee to thy painR
And while I have the power to chooseQ
We shall not meet againS
But 'mid the scenes of joy and mirthT
My fancies oft will turnU
Back to the Finest Sight on EarthT
The Bombay Lights asternU
