TO MORROWA
-
'Never do To day what can be postponed till To morrow save at the dictates of your personal convenience ' Maxims of the Wicked NoA
-
-
Sweet Word by whose unwearying assistanceB
We of the Ruling Race when sorely triedC
Can keep intrusive persons at a distanceB
And let unseasonable matters slideC
Thou at whose blast the powers of irritationD
Yield to a soft and gentlemanly lullE
Of solid peace and flat ProcrastinationD
These to thy praise and honour good old KalF
-
For we are greatly plagued by sacrilegiousG
Monsters in human form who care for naughtH
Save with incessant papers to besiege usI
E'en to the solemn hour of silent thoughtH
They draw no line the frightful joy of givingJ
Pain is their guerdon but for Thee aloneK
Life would be hardly worth the bore of livingJ
No one could call his very soul his ownK
-
But in thy Name th' importunate besetterA
Meets a repelling force that none can stemL
Varlets may come they do and go they'd betterA
Kal is the word that always does for themL
To morrow they may join the usual musterA
To day shall pass inviolably byM
BEELZEBUB Himself for all his blusterA
Would get the same old sickening replyM
-
And for thine aid in baffling the malignantN
Who with unholy art conspire to seeO
Our ease dis eased our dignity indignantN
We do Thee homage on the bended kneeO
And I would add a word of common gratitudeP
To those thy coadjutors ao and laoQ
Who take with Thee th' uncompromising attitudeP
From which the dullest mind deduces jaoR
