Come let us weep for Begum he is dead	A
Dead and afar where Thamis' waters lave	B
The busy marge he lies unvisited	A
Unsung above no cypress branches wave	B
Nor tributary blossoms fringe his grave	B
Only would these poor numbers advertise	C
His copious charms and mourn for his demise	C

Blithesome was he and beautiful the Zoo	D
Hath nought to match with Begum He was one	E
Of infinite humour well indeed he knew	D
To catch with mobile lips th' impetuous bun	E
Tossed him ward by some sire encouraged son	E
Half fearful yet of pride fulfilled to note	A
The dough swift homing down th' exultant throat	A
	-
Whilom he pensive stood infoliate	A
Of comfortable mud and idly stirred	A
His tiny caudal disproportionate	A
But not ungraceful while a wanton herd	A
Of revellers the mystic lens preferred	A
Whereof the focus rightly they addrest	A
And Phoebus being kind the button prest	A
	-
Then being frolic he as one distraught	A
Would blindly stumbling seek the watery verge	F
And sink nor rise again But when untaught	A
In craft the mourners raised the untimely dirge	F
Lo otherwhere himself would swift emerge	F
Incontinent and crisp his tasselled ears	G
And all vivacious own the sounding cheers	G

Nothing of dark suspicion nor of guile	H
Was limned on Begum his the mirthful glance	I
The genial port the comprehensive smile	H
The very sunbeams shimmering loved to dance	I
Within that honest open countenance	J
And far as eye could pierce his roomy grin	K
Was pink as 'twere Aurora dwelt therein	K

Yet he is dead Whether the froward cates	L
Some lawless lodgment found nor coughs released	A
Or if adown those hospitable gates	L
Drave the strong North or shrilled the ravening East	A
And ill requiting slew the wretched beast	A
We nothing know only the news is cried	A
Begum is dead we know not how he died	A

Still though the callous bards neglect to hymn	M
Thy praises Begum though on dross intent	A
The hireling sculptor pauseth not to limn	M
Thy spacious visage kindly hands are bent	A
E'en now to stuff thy frail integument	A
Then sleep in peace Belov d blest Sult n	M
Of some Rhinokeraunian Devach n	M
