Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEEDD FBFBGHIIJJ KLKMNNOODD PHPHHHDDEE

Christmas comes but once a yearA
Though by nature snappyB
Let us as we may appearA
Merry friend and happyB
Buckle to and when you meet yourC
Thunderstricken fellow creatureD
Show the broad indulgent smileE
Of th' ingenuous crocodileE
Look as if you'd backed a winnerD
Laugh you miserable sinnerD
-
Brother Christmas Day has comeF
Can't you seek for inspiB
ration in the turkey plumF
pudding beef and mince pieB
Brave it out and tho' you sit onG
Tenterhooks remain a BritonH
You can only do your bestI
Boxing Day's a day of restI
Throw aside your small digestiveJ
Eccentricities Be festiveJ
-
Christmas Day is on the wingK
Are you feeling wroth withL
Any one for anythingK
Beg his pardon forthwithM
Though the right is all on your sideN
Say it isn't say 'Of course I'dN
No intention very rudeO
Shocking taste but misconstrued'O
Then while I admit it's horriD
fying tell the man you're sorryD
-
Christmas Day will soon have flownP
If despite persuasionH
You resolve to be aloneP
On the glad occasionH
Better do as I have doneH
Vanish with a scatter gunH
If you have to see it throughD
Better do what I shall doD
Dining quietly at the Club'llE
Save us from a world of troubleE
