Ode On Melancholy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDECEE EFEFGHCGHI JKJKLBMBLM

No no go not to Lethe neither twistA
Wolf's bane tight rooted for its poisonous wineB
Nor suffer thy pale forehead to be kiss'dA
By nightshade ruby grape of ProserpineB
Make not your rosary of yew berriesC
Nor let the beetle nor the death moth beD
Your mournful Psyche nor the downy owlE
A partner in your sorrow's mysteriesC
For shade to shade will come too drowsilyE
And drown the wakeful anguish of the soulE
-
But when the melancholy fit shall fallE
Sudden from heaven like a weeping cloudF
That fosters the droop headed flowers allE
And hides the green hill in an April shroudF
Then glut thy sorrow on a morning roseG
Or on the rainbow of the salt sand waveH
Or on the wealth of globed peoniesC
Or if thy mistress some rich anger showsG
Emprison her soft hand and let her raveH
And feed deep deep upon her peerless eyesI
-
She dwells with Beauty Beauty that must dieJ
And Joy whose hand is ever at his lipsK
Bidding adieu and aching Pleasure nighJ
Turning to poison while the bee mouth sipsK
Ay in the very temple of DelightL
Veil'd Melancholy has her sovran shrineB
Though seen of none save him whose strenuous tongueM
Can burst Joy's grape against his palate fineB
His soul shalt taste the sadness of her mightL
And be among her cloudy trophies hungM
