Ah ken ye what I met the dayA
Out oure the MountainsB
A coming down by craggi e s greyA
An mossie fountainsB
A h goud hair'd Marie yeve I prayA
Ane minute's guessingC
For that I met upon the wayA
Is past expressingC
As I stood where a rocky brigD
A torrent crossesE
I spied upon a misty rigD
A troup o' HorsesF
And as they trotted down the glenG
I sped to meet themH
To see if I might know the MenG
To stop and greet themH
First Willie on his sleek mare cameI
At canting gallopJ
His long hair rustled like a flameI
On board a shallopJ
Then came his brother Rab and thenG
Young Peggy's MitherA
And Peggy too adown the glenG
They went togitherA
I saw her wrappit in her hoodK
Fra wind and rainingC
Her cheek was flush wi' timid bloodL
'Twixt growth and waningC
She turn'd her dazed head full oftM
For there her BrithersF
Came riding with her Bridegroom softN
And mony ithersF
Young Tam came up an' eyed me quickO
With reddened cheekP
Braw Tam was daffed like a chickO
He coud na speakP
Ah Marie they are all gane hameI
Through blustering weatherA
An' every heart is full on flameI
Ah Marie they are all gone hameI
Fra happy weddingC
Whilst I Ah is it not a shameI
Sad tears am sheddingC
