Solitude Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEFFGGHHIJKKLL MMThere is in stillness oft a magic power | A |
To calm the breast when struggling passions lower | A |
Touch'd by its influence in the soul arise | B |
Diviner feelings kindred with the skies | B |
By this the Arab's kindling thoughts expand | C |
When circling skies inclose the desert sand | C |
For this the hermit seeks the thickest grove | D |
To catch th' inspiring glow of heavenly love | E |
It is not solely in the freedom given | F |
To purify and fix the heart on heaven | F |
There is a Spirit singing aye in air | G |
That lifts us high above all mortal care | G |
No mortal measure swells that mystic sound | H |
No mortal minstrel breathes such tones around | H |
The Angels' hymn the sovereign harmony | I |
That guides the rolling orbs along the sky | J |
And hence perchance the tales of saints who view'd | K |
And heard Angelic choirs in solitude | K |
By most unheard because the earthly din | L |
Of toil or mirth has charms their ears to win | L |
Alas for man he knows not of the bliss | M |
The heaven that brightens such a life as this | M |
