Paraphrase Of Isaiah, Chap. 64 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEFGEHH IJKJKLL MKMKHH NONOPP QRQRSS TLTLUU QVQWAA

O that Thou wouldest rend the breadth of skyA
That veils Thy presence from the sons of menB
O that as erst Thou camest from on highA
Sudden in strength Thou so would'st come againB
Track'd out by judgments was Thy fiery pathC
Ocean and mountain withering in Thy wrathC
-
Then would Thy name the Just the MercifulD
Strange dubious attributes to human mindE
Appal Thy foes and kings who spurn Thy ruleF
Then then would quake to hopeless doomG
consign'dE
See the stout bows and totters the secureH
While pleasure's bondsman hides his head impureH
-
Come down for then shall from its seven brightI
springsJ
To him who thirsts the draught of life be givenK
Eye hath not seen ear hath not heard the thingsJ
Which He hath purposed for the heirs of heavenK
A God of love guiding with gracious rayL
Each meek rejoicing pilgrim on his wayL
-
Yea though we err and Thine averted faceM
Rebukes the folly in Thine Israel doneK
Will not that hour of chastisement give placeM
To beams the pledge of an eternal sunK
Yes for His counsels to the end endureH
We shall be saved our rest abideth sureH
-
Lord Lord our sins our sins unclean are weN
Gross and corrupt our seeming virtuous deedsO
Are but abominate all dead to TheeN
Shrivel like leaves when summer's green recedesO
While like the autumn blast our lusts ariseP
And sweep their prey where the fell serpent liesP
-
None there is none to plead with God in prayerQ
Bracing his laggart spirit to the workR
Of intercession conscience sprung despairQ
Sin loving still doth in each bosom lurkR
Guilt calls Thee to avenge Thy risen ireS
Sears like a brand we gaze and we expireS
-
But now O Lord our Father we are ThineT
Design and fashion senseless while we layL
Thou as the potter with a Hand DivineT
Didst mould Thy vessels of the sluggish clayL
Mark not our guilt Thy word of wrath recallU
we are Thine by price Thy people allU
-
Alas for Zion 'tis a waste the fairQ
The holy place in flames where once our siresV
Kindled the sacrifice of praise and prayerQ
Far other brightness gleams from Gentile firesW
Low lies our pride and wilt Thou self denyA
Thy rescuing arm unvex'd amid thine Israel's cryA
