I ve been very luckyA
In this life of mineB
To be blessed many timesC
With people and animals so kindD
-
Agatha was one of thoseE
I was fortunate to knowF
A small black Cocker SpanielG
She was always on the goF
-
She had the softest brown eyesH
That could melt a heart of stoneI
She was the sweetest dogJ
I have ever knownI
-
Her younger years were difficultK
To say the very leastL
Born with a heart defectM
She should have been deceasedL
-
I think anyone would agreeA
That fate had her come to meA
Although the reasons for these thingsN
Will always be a mysteryA
-
At any rate the story goesE
Along the way it shouldO
I was able to correct her heartP
When no one else ever couldO
-
She was like a sister to one kittyA
But really hated anotherQ
She always licked the oneR
But snarled at the otherQ
-
Her attitude made me laughS
As I would watch her runR
The way she went at lifeT
Every thing was truly funR
-
Then one day she couldn t walkU
And didn t understand the whyV
Again that fate had entered inW
As she was soon to dieV
-
We tried everything to cureX
But in the end to no availY
It was all that we could doZ
One final breath ended her travailY
-
Agatha died in my arms with that final breathA2

Poet's note: The poem pretty much tells the story. There is lots more about her passing that I may eventually share. Suffice it to say, she was a wonderful little dog.
