Thank You Agatha

I’ve been very lucky
In this life of mine
To be blessed many times
With people and animals so kind.

Agatha was one of those,
I was fortunate to know.
A small black Cocker Spaniel
She was always on the go.

She had the softest brown eyes
That could melt a heart of stone.
She was the sweetest dog
I have ever known.

Her younger years were difficult
To say the very least.
Born with a heart defect
She should have been deceased.

I think anyone would agree
That fate had her come to me.
Although the reasons for these things
Will always be a mystery.

At any rate the story goes
Along the way it should.
I was able to correct her heart
When no one else ever could.

She was like a sister to one kitty
But really hated another
She always licked the one
But snarled at the other.

Her attitude made me laugh
As I would watch her run.
The way she went at life
Every thing was truly fun.

Then one day she couldn’t walk
And didn’t understand the why.
Again that fate had entered in
As she was soon to die.

We tried everything to cure
But in the end to no avail.
It was all that we could do.
One final breath ended her travail.

Agatha died in my arms with that final breath . . .

Poet's note: The poem pretty much tells the story. There is lots more about her passing that I may eventually share. Suffice it to say, she was a wonderful little dog.
