The Wish Of To-day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJKL MNMN OPQP RDRD

I ask not now for gold to gildA
With mocking shine a weary frameB
The yearning of the mind is stilledA
I ask not now for FameB
-
A rose cloud dimly seen aboveC
Melting in heaven's blue depths awayD
Oh sweet fond dream of human LoveC
For thee I may not prayD
-
But bowed in lowliness of mindE
I make my humble wishes knownF
I only ask a will resignedE
O Father to Thine ownF
-
To day beneath Thy chastening eyeG
I crave alone for peace and restH
Submissive in Thy hand to lieG
And feel that it is bestH
-
A marvel seems the UniverseI
A miracle our Life and DeathJ
A mystery which I cannot pierceK
Around above beneathL
-
In vain I task my aching brainM
In vain the sage's thought I scanN
I only feel how weak and vainM
How poor and blind is manN
-
And now my spirit sighs for homeO
And longs for light whereby to seeP
And like a weary child would comeQ
O Father unto TheeP
-
Though oft like letters traced on sandR
My weak resolves have passed awayD
In mercy lend Thy helping handR
Unto my prayer to dayD
