The Turkey, Peacock, And Goose Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BBCDEEFFGG HHII JJKK LLDCMMKKIGNN GGGG

As specks appear on fields of snowA
So blemishes on beauty showA
-
A peacock fed in a farm yardB
Where all the poultry eyed him hardB
They looked on him with evil eyeC
And mocked his sumptuous pageantryD
Proud of the glories he inheritedE
He sought the praises they well meritedE
Then to surprise their dazzled sightF
He spread his glories to the lightF
His glories spread no sooner seenG
Than rose their malice and their spleenG
-
Behold his insolence and prideH
His haughtiness the turkey criedH
He trusts in feathers but withinI
They serve to hide his negro skinI
-
What hideous legs exclaimed the gooseJ
The tail to hide them were of useJ
And hearken to his voice it howlsK
Enough to frighten midnight owlsK
-
Yes they are blemishes I ownL
Replied the peacock harsh the toneL
Is of my voice no symmetryD
In my poor legs yet had your eyeC
Been pleased to mark my radiant trainM
You might have spared detraction's veinM
For if these shanks which you traduceK
Belonged to turkey or to gooseK
Or had the voice still harsher beenI
They had not been remarked or seenG
But Envy unto beauties blindN
Seeks blemishes to soothe her mindN
-
So have we in the midnight sceneG
Seen purity with face sereneG
Awake the clamour of detractionG
From jaundiced Envy's yellow factionG
