The Ratcatcher And Cats Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBAACCAADDEEFFGGHH IIAAJJ AAAAAAKKLLMM

The rats by night the mischief didA
And Betty every morn was chidA
The cheese was nibbled tarts were takenB
And purloined were the eggs and baconB
And Betty cursed the cat whose dutyA
Was to protect and guard the bootyA
A ratcatcher of well known skillC
Was called to kill or scotch the illC
And as an engineer surveyedA
Their haunts and laid an ambuscadeA
A cat behold him and was wrathD
Whilst she resolved to cross his pathD
Not to be beaten by such chapsE
She silently removed his trapsE
Again he set the traps and toilsF
Again his cunning pussy foilsF
He set a trap to catch the thiefG
And pussy she got caught in briefG
Ah said the rat catcher you scampH
You are the spy within the campH
But the cat said A sister spareI
Your science is our mutual careI
Science and cats the man repliedA
We soon that question shall decideA
You are my rival interloperJ
A nasty sneaking crouching groperJ
-
A sister tabby saw the cordA
And interposed a happy wordA
In every age and clime we seeA
Two of a trade cannot agreeA
Each deems the other an encroacherA
As sportsman thinks another poacherA
Beauty with beauty vies in charmsK
And king with king in warfare's armsK
But let us limit our desiresL
Nor war like beauties kings and squiresL
For though one prey we both pursueM
There's prey enough for us and youM
