The Owls And Sparrow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BBCCD EEFFGGHI JJKKJJLLMMNNOOPP

Two pompous owls together satA
In the solemnity of chatA
-
Respect to wisdom all is fledB
The Grecian sages all are deadB
They gave our fathers honour dueC
The dignity of owls they knewC
Upon our merit they conferredD
The title of 'The Athenian bird '-
-
Brother they did you reason rightE
Answered his chum with winking sightE
For Athens was the seat of learningF
Academicians were discerningF
They placed us on Minerva's helmG
And strove with rank to overwhelmG
Our worth which now is quite neglectedH
Ay a cock sparrow's more respectedI
-
A sparrow who was passing byJ
And heard the speech made this replyJ
Old chaps you were at Athens gracedK
And on Minerva's helm were placedK
And we all know the reason whyJ
Of all the birds beneath the skyJ
They chose you forth the lot to showL
What they desired their schools to knowL
The emptiness of solemn looksM
You teach it better than the booksM
Would you be thought of wit and worthN
And be respected upon earthN
Humble your arrogance of mindO
Go to the farmers and there findO
A welcome foe to mice and ratsP
And live the rivals of the catsP
