Sick Man And Angel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFGHHIIJJAA KK LL MMNOPP QQRR SSKKLL

Is there no hope the sick man saidA
The silent doctor shook his headA
And took his leave with unfeigned sorrowB
To lose a patient on the morrowB
When left alone the dying manC
Let me review my life beganC
My bargains well they were well madeD
'Tis the necessity of tradeD
Necessity is no transgressionE
Now for my portion in possessionE
My lands and my securitiesF
They all are right in every wiseG
If justice to myself and heirsH
Have done some hardships unawaresH
Left Smith in jail for debt or sentI
The Browns adrift for unpaid rentI
I've given alms and helped my friendsJ
What I propose will make amendsJ
When I am numbered with the deadA
And when my good bequests are readA
Then will be seen and then be knownK
Benevolence I have not shownK
-
The angel present by his sideL
Bade him not in such hopes confideL
-
What deed have you done worthy praiseM
What orphan blesses widow praysM
To lengthen out your life one yearN
If you will now add deeds to prayerO
Your neighbours want whilst you aboundP
Give me a cheque five hundred poundP
-
Where is the haste the sick man whinesQ
Who knows who knows what Heaven designsQ
That sum and more are in my willR
Perhaps I may recover stillR
-
Fool said the angel it is plainS
That your great happiness was gainS
And after death would fain atoneK
By giving what is not your ownK
Whilst there is life there's hope he criedL
Then why such haste he spoke and diedL
