I scorn the man who builds his fame	A
On ruins of another's name	A
As prudes who prudishly declare	B
They by a sister scandaled are	C
As scribblers covetous of praise	D
By slandering snatch themselves the bays	D
Beauties and bards alike are prone	E
To snatch at honours not their own	E
As Lesbia listens all the whister	C
To hear some scandal of a sister	C
How can soft souls which sigh for sueings	D
Rejoice at one another's ruins	D

He plucked a blossomed rose transcending	G

To rhapsodize and thus he sung	H

On Chlo 's bosom and be there caressed	J
For there would I	I
Like to a turtle dove aye flee to nest	J
From jealousy	D
And carking care by which I am opprest	J
There lie repose	D
Upon a bosom fragrant and as fair	C
Nor rival those	D
Beauties ethereal you discover there	C
For wherefore rose	D
Should you as I be subject to despair	C
