Rose And Poet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEECCDD FFGGHH IJIJDJDCDCDC CCJJKKDDLLDDMM

I scorn the man who builds his fameA
On ruins of another's nameA
As prudes who prudishly declareB
They by a sister scandaled areC
As scribblers covetous of praiseD
By slandering snatch themselves the baysD
Beauties and bards alike are proneE
To snatch at honours not their ownE
As Lesbia listens all the whisterC
To hear some scandal of a sisterC
How can soft souls which sigh for sueingsD
Rejoice at one another's ruinsD
-
As in the merry month of MayF
A bard enjoyed the break of dayF
And quaffed the fragrant scents ascendingG
He plucked a blossomed rose transcendingG
All blossoms else it moved his tongueH
To rhapsodize and thus he sungH
-
Go rose and lieI
On Chlo 's bosom and be there caressedJ
For there would II
Like to a turtle dove aye flee to nestJ
From jealousyD
And carking care by which I am opprestJ
There lie reposeD
Upon a bosom fragrant and as fairC
Nor rival thoseD
Beauties ethereal you discover thereC
For wherefore roseD
Should you as I be subject to despairC
-
-
-
Spare your comparisons oh spareC
Of me and fragrancy and fairC
A Maiden blush which heard him saidJ
With face unwontedly flushed redJ
Tell me for what committed wrongK
Am I the metaphor of songK
I would you could write rhymes without meD
Nor in your ecstacies so flout meD
In every ditty must we bloomL
Can't you find elsewhere some perfumeL
Oh does it add to Chlo 's sweetnessD
To visit and compare my meetnessD
And to enhance her face must mineM
Be made to wither peak and pineM
