Man And Flea Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDAAEEEEFF GGHHIIJKAA KKAAEEKKLME NN

Nothing methinks is to be seenA
On earth that does not overweenA
Doth not the hawk from high surveyB
The fowls as destined for his preyB
And do not C sars and such thingsC
Deem men were born to slave for kingsC
The crab amidst the golden sandsD
Of Tagus or on pearl strewn strandsD
Or in the coral grove marineA
Thinks hers each gem of ray sereneA
The snail 'midst bordering pinks and rosesE
Where zephyrs fly and love reposesE
Where Laura's cheek vies with the peachesE
When Corydon one glance beseechesE
The snail regards both fruit and flowerF
And thanks God for the granted bowerF
-
And man who standing on some bluffG
Regards the world with soul as toughG
The sun the moon the starry sphereH
The harvests of the circling yearH
The mighty ocean meadows trimI
And deems they all are made for himI
How infinite he says am IJ
How wondrous in capacityK
Over creation to hold reignA
The lord of pleasure and of painA
-
Hold hard my hearty said a fleaK
Perched on his neck beneath his leeK
I do not brag that all creationA
Is subject to the Flea ite nationA
I know that parasitic racesE
The Ticks and Lucies have their placesE
But the imperial race of FleaK
Is all surpassing look at meK
My concentrated vigour grantL
Then look at yon huge elephantM
Look at my leap at my proboscisE
Then go and learn 'UT TU TE NOSCIS '-
That man was made with skin to bleedN
That families of fleas may feedN
