Lion, Fox, And Gander Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFF GGHHIIFF JKLMFFNNDDOO

A lion sick of pomp and stateA
Resolved his cares to delegateA
Reynard was viceroy named the crowdB
Of courtiers to the regent bowedB
Wolves bears and tigers stoop and bendC
And strive who most could condescendC
Whilst he with wisdom in his faceD
Assumed the regal grace and paceD
Whilst flattery hovered him aroundE
And the pleased ear in thraldom boundE
A fox well versed in adulationF
Rose to pronounce the due orationF
-
Vast talents trained in virtue's schoolG
With clemency from passion coolG
And uncorrupted such a handH
Will shed abundance o'er the landH
The brain shall prompt the wiser partI
Mercy and justice rule the heartI
All blessings must attend the nationF
Under such bright administrationF
-
A gander heard and understoodJ
And summoned round his gosling broodK
Whene'er you hear a rogue commendedL
Be sure some mischief is intendedM
A fox now spoke in commendationF
Foxes no doubt will rise in stationF
If they hold places it is plainN
The geese will feel a tyrant reignN
'Tis a sad prospect for our raceD
When every petty clerk in placeD
Will follow fashion and ne'er ceaseO
On holidays to feed on geeseO
