Hound And Huntsman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCBBDDEEFF GGHIBBJJ KK BBBBLLMMNN

Seeing yourselves are wise ye smileA
On fools and folly for a whileA
But water wears the rocks and senseB
Is wearied by impertinenceB
-
The wind was southerly the skyC
Proclaimed that a good scent would lieC
Forth from the kennel burst the houndsB
As schoolboys sally out of boundsB
They hailed the huntsman he by nameD
Greeted each dog who thought it fameD
See them obey command when badeE
They scattered thro' the copse and gladeE
They snuffed the scent upon the galeF
And sought the remnant of a trailF
-
Ringwood a pup on the alertG
Was very young and very pertG
He opened from exuberant spiritH
But old dogs heard the puppy in itI
But when his note of Full cry roseB
The huntsman to the puppy goesB
Down falls the lash up rose the yelpJ
And murmured thus the puppy whelpJ
-
Why lash me Are you malcontentK
That I possess superior scentK
-
The huntsman answered Puppy slipsB
Must be restrained by lash of whipsB
Puppies our scorn not envy raiseB
For envy is akin to praiseB
Had not that forward noisy tongueL
The patience of your elders wrungL
You might have hunted with the packM
But now the whip assails your backM
You must be taught to know your groundN
And from a puppy grow a houndN
