Cur, Horse, And Shepherd's Dog Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFAGGHI GGJJKK GGGG

The lad of mediocre spiritA
Blurs not with modesty his meritA
On all exerting wit and tongueB
His rattling jokes at random flungB
Bespatter widely friend and foeC
Too late the forward boy will knowC
That jokes are often paid in kindD
Or rankle longer in the mindD
-
A village cur with treble throatE
Thought he owned music's purest noteE
And on the highway lay to show itF
Or to philosopher or poetA
Soon as a roadster's trot was heardG
He rose with nose and ears uprearedG
As he passed by assailed his heelsH
Nor left him till they reached the fieldsI
-
But as it happened once a padG
Assailed by Master Snarl like madG
Flung out and knocked him in the mireJ
Nor did he stop to care inquireJ
If he had hurt him On his wayK
Pad passed and puppy bleeding layK
-
A shepherd's dog who saw him bleedG
Who hated Snarl and all his breedG
Said This was brought about by prateG
Which horses even horses hateG
