Butterfly And Snail Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BBCCDDAA EEFFGGHHBB IJKKLLBBMMNNOO

All upstarts insolent in placeA
Remind us of their vulgar raceA
-
A butterfly but born one morningB
Sat on a rose the rosebud scorningB
His wings of azure jet and goldC
Were truly glorious to beholdC
He spread his wings he sipped the dewD
When an old neighbour hove in viewD
The snail who left a slimy traceA
Upon the lawn his native placeA
-
Adam he to the gard'ner criedE
Behold this fellow by my sideE
What is the use with daily toilF
To war with weeds to clear the soilF
And with keen intermittent labourG
To graft and prune for fruit with flavourG
The peach and plum if such as heH
Voracious vermin may make freeH
Give them the roller or the rakeB
And crush as you would crush a snakeB
-
The snail replied Your arroganceI
Awakes my patience from its tranceJ
Recalls to mind your humble birthK
Born from the lowliest thing on earthK
Nine times has Phoebus with the hoursL
Awakened to new life new flowersL
Since you were a vile crawling thingB
Though now endowed with painted wingB
You then were vilest of the vileM
I was a snail but housed the whileM
Was born a snail and snail shall dieN
And thou though now a butterflyN
Will leave behind a baneful breedO
Of caterpillar sons thy seedO
