Yearly thrilled the plum treeA
With the mother moodB
Every June the rose stockC
Bore her wonder childD
Every year the wheatlandsE
Reared a golden broodB
World of praying RachaelsE
Heard and reconciledD
-
Poet said the plum tree'sE
Singing white and greenF
What avails your mooningC
Can you fashion plumsE
Dreamer crooned the wheatland'sE
Rippling vocal sheenF
See my golden childrenG
Marching as with drumsE
-
By a god begottenH
Hymned the sunning vineI
In my lyric childrenG
Purple music flowsE
Singer breathed the rose bushJ
Are they not divineI
Have you any daughtersE
Mighty as a roseE
-
Happy happy mothersE
Cruel cruel wordsE
Mine are ghostly childrenG
Haunting all the waysE
Latent in the plum bloomK
Calling through the birdsE
Romping with the wheat broodB
In their shadow playsE
-
Gotten out of star glintL
Mothered of the MoonM
Nurtured with the rose scentN
Wild elusive throngC
Something of the vine's dreamO
Crept into a tuneM
Something of the wheat droneP
Echoed in a songC
-
Once again the white firesE
Smoked among the plumsE
Once again the world joyQ
Burst the crimson budR
Golden bannered wheat broodsE
Marched to fairy drumsE
Once again the vineyardS
Felt the Bacchic bloodR
-
Lo he comes the dreamerT
Crooned the whitened boughsE
Quick with vernal love firesE
Oh at last he knowsE
See the bursting plum bloomK
There above his browsE
Boaster breathed the rose bushJ
'Tis a budding roseE
-
Droned the glinting acresE
In his soul mayhapU
Something like a wheat dreamO
Quickens into shapeU
Sang the sunning vineyardS
Lo the lyric sapU
Sets his heart a throbbingC
Like a purple grapeU
-
Mother of the wheatlandsE
Mother of the plumsE
Mother of the vineyardS
All that loves and growsE
Such a living gloryA
To the dreamer comesE
Mystic as a wheat songC
Mighty as a roseE
-
Star glint moon glowV
Gathered in a meshW
Spring hope white fireT
By a kiss beguiledD
Something of the world joyQ
Dreaming into fleshW
Bird song vine thrillX
Quickened to a childD
