The Beam Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCACCD ECFGCED AHCICHD

The dead white on the fields' dead whiteA
Turned the peace to miseryB
Tall bony trees their wild arms thrustC
Into the cold breast of the nightA
Brightly the stars shone in their dustC
The hard wind's gustC
Scratched like a bird the frozen snowD
-
Against the dead light grew the goldE
Lifting its beam to that high dustC
The lamp within the hut's small paneF
Called the world to life againG
Arms of the trees atremble thrustC
Defiance at the coldE
Night of narrow shrouding snowD
-
A human beam small spear of lightA
Lifting its beauty to that highH
Indifference of starry dustC
The aching trees were comfortedI
And their brave arms more deeply thrustC
Into the skyH
Earth's warm light fingered the dead snowD
