Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIB JKLK

A gray day and quietA
With slow clouds of grayB
And in dull air a cloud that falls fallsC
All dayB
-
The naked and stiff branchesD
Of oak elm thornE
In the cold light are like men aged andF
ForlornE
-
Only a gray skyG
Grass trees grass againH
And all the air a cloud that drips dripsI
All dayB
-
Lovely the lonelyJ
Bare trees and green grassK
Lovelier now the last hours of slow winterL
Slowly passK

Carol Hill: John Freeman wrote about nature. Last Hours of slow winter are now almost past here in northeast Missouri. This cold wet season has its beauty, and John Freeman expressed it beautifully.
vafuchs: One of my favorite poems, especially in the haunting setting by the composer, John Ireland.
