Lambourn Town Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IDJK LMLM NKNK OKOK PHPH

The rain beat on me as I walkedA
In the roadside it ran and mutteredB
It seemed the rain to the wind talkedA
Of storm in the wind the wild cloud flutteredB
-
Across the down now bleak and loudC
I went and the rain ran with meD
How swift the rain how low the cloudC
No heavenly comfort could I seeD
-
Nor comfort of low beaming lightE
From any casement creeping outF
The swift rain on the patient nightE
Swept and anon would great winds shoutF
-
Rain rain nought else until I turnedG
The thrusting shoulder of the downH
And through the mist of rain there burnedG
The few green lanterns of the townH
-
And in the rain the night was litI
With my love's eyes burning for meD
Her white face in the dark was sweetJ
Her hands like moonflowers quiveringlyK
-
Fell upon mine and each was dashedL
With rain blown in from streaming eavesM
While overhead the broad flood plashedL
Noisily on the broad plane leavesM
-
Within we heard the gurgle glockN
In the pipe the tip tap on the sillK
Like the same ticking of the clockN
We heard the water butt o'erspillK
-
The wind come blustering at the doorO
The whipped white lilac thrash the wallK
The candle flame upon the floorO
Crept between shadows magicalK
-
In the black east a pallid rayP
Rose high and sweeping o'er the downH
The slow increase of stormless dayP
Lit the wet roofs of Lambourn townH
