Most comfortable LightA
Light of the small lamp burning up the nightA
With dawn enleagued against the beaten darkB
Pure golden perfect sparkB
-
Or sudden wind bright flameC
That but the strong handed wind can urge or tameC
Chill loveliest light the kneeling clouds betweenD
Silverly sereneD
-
Comfort of happy lightA
That mouse like leaps amid brown leaves cheating sightA
Clear naked stars burning with swift intenseE
Earthward intelligenceF
-
Sensitive singleG
Points in the dark inane that purely tingleG
With eager fire pouring night's circles throughH
Their living blueH
-
Dark light still waters holdI
Broad silver moonpath trodden into goldI
Candle flame glittering through the traveller's nightA
Most comfortable lightA
-
And lovelier the eyeJ
Where light from darkness shines unfathomablyH
Light secret clear shallow profound known strangeK
Constant alone in changeK
-
Not that wild light that turnsL
Hunted from dying eyes when the last fire burnsL
O not that bitter light of wounded thingsM
When bony anguish springsM
-
Sudden intolerableH
Nor light of mad eyes gleaming up from hellH
Come not again wild light Shine not againN
Hill flare of painO
-
But thou most holy lightA
Not the noon blaze that stings too fiercely brightA
Not that unwinking stare of shameless dayP
But thou the grayP
-
Nun like and silent stillH
Fine breathed on many an eastern bare green hillH
Keen light of gray eyes cool rain and stern spearsQ
Sad light but not to tearsR
-
O comfort thou of eyesS
Watching expectant from chill northern skiesS
Excellent joy for lids heavy with nightA
Strange with delightA
