The Prohibition Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCBCAA AADBDBAA BBEAEABB

Take heed of loving meA
At least remember I forbade it theeA
Not that I shall repair my unthrifty wasteB
Of breath and blood upon thy sighs and tearsC
By being to thee then what to me thou wastB
But so great joy our life at once outwearsC
Then lest thy love by my death frustrate beA
If thou love me take heed of loving meA
-
Take heed of hating meA
Or too much triumph in the victoryA
Not that I shall be mine own officerD
And hate with hate again retaliateB
But thou wilt lose the style of conquerorD
If I thy conquest perish by thy hateB
Then lest my being nothing lessen theeA
If thou hate me take heed of hating meA
-
Yet love and hate me tooB
So these extremes shall neither's office doB
Love me that I may die the gentler wayE
Hate me because thy love is too great for meA
Or let these two themselves not me decayE
So shall I live thy stage not triumph beA
Lest thou thy love and hate and me undoB
To let me live O love and hate me tooB
