The Three Hills Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD ECEC FGFG HIHI JKJL

There were three hills that stood aloneA
With woods about their feetB
They dreamed quiet when the sun shoneA
And whispered when the rain beatB
-
They wore all three their coronalsC
Till men with houses cameD
And scored their heads with pits and wallsC
And thought the hills were tameD
-
Red and white when day shines brightE
They hide the green for milesC
Where are the old hills gone At nightE
The moon looks down and smilesC
-
She sees the captors small and weakF
She knows the prisoners strongG
She hears the patient hills that speakF
Brothers it is not longG
-
Brothers we stood when they were notH
Ten thousand summers pastI
Brothers when they are clean forgotH
We shall outlive the lastI
-
One shall die and one shall fleeJ
With terror in his trainK
And earth shall eat the stones and weJ
Shall be alone againL
