The Stronghold Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCDC EEFGDG HIJJKLMFNF

Quieter than any twilightA
Shed over earth's last desertsB
Quiet and vast and shadowlessB
Is that unfounded keepC
Higher than the roof of the night's high chamberD
Deep as the shaft of sleepC
-
And solitude will not cry thereE
Melancholy will not brood thereE
Hatred with its sharp corroding painF
And fear will not come there at allG
Never will a tear or a heart ache enterD
Over that enchanted wallG
-
But O if you find that castleH
Draw back your foot from the gatewayI
Let not its peace invite youJ
Let not its offerings tempt youJ
For faded and decayed like a garmentK
Love to a dust will have fallenL
And song and laughter will have gone with sorrowM
And hope will have gone with painF
And of all the throbbing heart's high courageN
Nothing will remainF
