Sonnet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEGFG

There was an Indian who had known no changeA
Who strayed content along a sunlit beachB
Gathering shells He heard a sudden strangeA
Commingled noise looked up and gasped for speechB
For in the bay where nothing was beforeC
Moved on the sea by magic huge canoesD
With bellying cloths on poles and not one oarC
And fluttering coloured signs and clambering crewsD
-
And he in fear this naked man aloneE
His fallen hands forgetting all their shellsF
His lips gone pale knelt low behind a stoneE
And stared and saw and did not understandG
Columbus's doom burdened caravelsF
Slant to the shore and all their seamen landG
