The Prisoner Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAA BCC DDD EEE FFF

From pacing pacing without hope or questA
He leaned against his window bars to restA
And smelt the breeze that crept up from the westA
-
It came with sundown noises from the moorsB
Of milking time and loud voiced rural choresC
Of lumbering wagons and of closing doorsC
-
He caught a whiff of furrowed upland sweetD
And certain scents stole up across the streetD
That told him fireflies winked among the wheatD
-
Over the dusk hill woke a new moon's lightE
Shadowed the woods and made the waters whiteE
And watched above the quiet tents of nightE
-
Alas that the old Mother should not knowF
How ached his heart to be entreated soF
Who heard her calling and who could not goF
